INGEOBRAS and BioGasDT have participated in a high added value pilot project for a fresh egg processing company in Zaragoza (Spain). In this project, a circular system for the production of biogas from chicken manure has been created.
It is a highly innovative initiative that aims to transform waste (3 tons of chicken manure per day) into bioenergy, a type of renewable energy produced from the use of organic matter.
Thanks to this project, the company will be able to transform a problem, such as the daily management of the waste produced by the hens, into an essential resource such as energy, which is becoming increasingly valuable and costly. The energy can be used for various purposes, such as heating the animals, drying grain or even to power its fleet of vehicles.
It is a project of enormous potential that promotes the principles of the circular economy. In addition, it is designed to be a closed circular It is a project of huge potential that promotes the principles of the circular economy. In addition, it is designed as a closed circular circuit with a compact scrubber at the outlet of the biodigester that recirculates clean water to its inlet, thus avoiding excessive consumption of raw water.
This project consists of several phases:
- Phase 1: The poultry manure is mixed with reused water in a ratio of 5 parts water to 1 part poultry manure and stirred for proper dilution.
- Phase 2: A solid/liquid separation takes place.
- Phase 3: The liquid is introduced into the biodigester to produce biogas with a high methane content (65-70%), which is then refined to obtain biomethane. The resulting effluent water from the biodigester outlet contains a large amount of nitrogen and must be treated so that it can be reused again in the dilution of the poultry manure.
- Phase 4: A compact plant with ANAERGY + Puremust-SN technology is added to remove excess COD and nitrogen. After treatment, clean water is obtained and recirculated back to the inlet of the biodigester in order to dilute new poultry manure on a daily basis.
This project has been successfully developed and is currently in operation. Initially it was a great challenge, but at the same time a very exciting and inspiring project. Each phase was studied in detail to eliminate inefficiencies, guarantee its operability and reuse 100% of the water that enters the circuit.

In addition, it has designed, built, installed and executed the customized compact nitrogen removal plant that integrates its ANAERGY and Puremust-SN technology.
This plant is designed to treat the effluent from the anaerobic digester by reducing 70% of the nitrogen in order to reuse the water.
Like all compact plants developed by INGEOBRAS, advanced sensor technology and control devices have been added to fully automate the plant, monitor key parameters and allow remote control management.
This project is a clear example of how innovation can provide a more sustainable and cost-effective solution for the transition to a circular economy.
