What is it?

The problem

Contamination of drinking water with pollutants such as Arsenic and Uranium exists in both rural and urban areas. Most of the time, the contamination comes from „washing“ the soil with these naturally occurring materials, although sometimes it can be caused by polluting discharges.

The disposal of these materials is an issue of great interest worldwide since the use of water contaminated with these materials can cause them to be transferred to the food chain and generate health problems for the population.

The maximum level of arsenic allowed in drinking water is 10 μg/l

Although it is a serious problem that requires attention and immediate action, there are more and more areas with a potential for contamination due to different reasons such as the over-exploitation of aquifers.
